HORSE EXPO FALL-NORTH PRESENTS: Vatnsleysa

Have you ever heard of the famous Glampi frá Vatnsleysa? Today we'll present a breeding farm known for its powerful horses with high leg action. Let's meet:

VATNSLEYSA

Vatnsleysa is a well-known horse-breeding farm located in Sauðárkrókur in the north of Iceland. Vatnsleysa has been in the family for many years and is currently operated by Björn Jónsson and Arndís Brynjólfdóttir.

“There are few breeding farms in Iceland that have as long breeding history as Vatnsleysa. Our goal has always been to breed strong and powerful horses with great charisma and high leg action.

We pride ourselves of the great character that our horses have and we try to protect that quality by handling our youngsters with care in their first years and training. It has always been our guiding principle that young horses should stay joyful. The better the foundation is you first start them; the better they will do later on. You have to be careful that you don’t do too much at a time so that the youngsters don’t get tired and stop enjoying the work.

We put a great effort in good and professional training to bring out the best in each horse. We believe that we’ll get the best result by appreciating the horse and treating it as a friend and as a partner.

It is not possible to deal with the history of the breeding at Vatnsleysa without mentioning the charismatic stallion Glampi frá Vatnsleysa. He is out of Albína frá Vatnsleysa and Smári frá Borgarhóli, a son of Hrafn frá Holtsmúla. Glampi was already very special as a foal and we knew immediately that this was a unique individual. His offsprings have turned out very well.

We are looking forward to let you experience our horses and life at Vatnsleysa.
