Right now you can prepare for your trip – or get tempted to join us – by reading our brand new interviews with the participating breeders. First, we present Árbæjarhjáleiga and Austurás:
Árbæjarhjáleiga is located in south Iceland - close to the village Hella. It is about an hour drive from Reykjavík. Marjolijn and Kristinn have been living at the farm with their two daughters Hekla Katharína and Rakel Nathalie since 1992.
"We have had good luck with some truly great horses from our farm. The highest judged is IS2007186992 - Jarl frá Árbæjarhjáleigu, which has a total of 8.71 in the breeding assessment. 8.39 for conformation and 8.92 for ridden abilities. We are also proud to say that his first offspring was shown in the year 2015. IS2011286754 – Þökk frá Árbæjarhjáleigu was the highest judged four year old mare at the breeding assessment that year in Iceland with a total of 8.27 – 8.24 for conformation and 8.29 for ridden abilities.
In our breeding line there is a lot of the great Ófeigur frá Flugumýri. Five of our breeding mares are his daughters. The qualities that we like so much from Ófeigur are the strong characters with a lot of movement and a great willingness. We would say that we breed our horses with the goal of having horses with a good character, charismatic looks, big movements and five good gaits with a big emphasis on good and clear beated tölt. We get about 15 – 20 foals each year.
When choosing the right stallion or mare, we focus a lot on certain qualities in our breeding. We go a lot by feeling and try to use our instincts: What feeling does the stallion/mare give you when you see it or ride it?
We are really looking forward to welcome the Horse Expo guests at Árbæjarhjáleiga and to show and promote our breeding – and of course the visitors will see father and daughter, Jarl and Þökk. We also would like to show some more offsprings of Jarl that we have in training. The visitors can also see old hero Vígar frá Skarði, son of Ófeigur frá Flugumýri. He is one of the most successful competition horse in Iceland over the years.
We have also many outstanding horses for sale that we would like to put into the right hands: Breeding horses, competition horses and nice riding horses."

Austurás is located 1.5 km from Selfoss, which is around 65 km from Reykjavík. On the farm Ragga and Haukur have been breeding promising horses since 2007.
"We have been here since 2007. We are still young breeders. We have bred a few first price horses and we have many young, promising horses now. We get about 5-7 foals each year. Our main goal is to breed good sport horses with good and easy temperament, clear gaits and good willingness. When we are choosing the right stallion or mare we are looking for a good temperament, movements, clear gaits, good conformation, the bloodline and so on. Of course it is extremely important to have the right breeding mare. If you are so lucky to find the right mare, then you might be in the right direction to breed good horses.
We are looking forward to welcoming the Horse Expo visitors. To get to know new people and present our farm and the horses from Austurás. We hope that you will enjoy to see a nice stable and to take a look at our promising young breeding horses after stallions like: Álfur from Selfoss, Kiljan from Steinnesi, Gaumur from Auðsholtshjáleigu, Álffinnur from Syðri Gegnishólum, Hákon from Ragnheiðarstaðir!"
The red mare is a young promising mare, Hera from Austurás, born 2011, father is Álffinnur from Syðri Gegnishólar and mother is the 1st price mare, Vænting from Bæ.
The foal is Úlfur from Austurás, born 2015, father, Konsert from Hofi and mother Elding from Strönd 1st price mare.
